Siembra Leadership High School is hiring educational innovators who are committed to prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs in Albuquerque.  They must be smart, committed, hardworking, people who are passionate about working in a start-up school that has re-designed the nature of teaching and learning for students and families in the Southwest quadrant of Albuquerque.  We are looking to hire creative, energetic educators who are enthusiastic about doing things differently to help build a new model of education.

THE SIEMBRA MISSION

The mission of Siembra Leadership High School (SLHS) is to prepare students for entrepreneurial careers that reflect the values and needs of the Westside and South Valley Communities through collaboration with entrepreneurs, and an emphasis on social, emotional, and intellectual growth.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Teachers are chiefly responsible for carrying out the mission of the school which is to “learn by doing.” The teachers are directly responsible to the executive director. Download the full description here

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design an applied learning curriculum in for their classes that aligned with the mission of preparation for college by graduation.
  • Commitment to a “Mastery Based” instructional method and assessment process that engages young people in a skill development and content knowledge that is not based on traditional measures of seat time and letter grades
  • Collaborate with other teachers to develop regular cross-disciplinary projects that culminate in exhibitions of learning at the end of each trimester and/or school year.
  • Facilitate the growth of a physically and emotionally safe school culture through daily activities in core content classrooms and Advisory
  • Lead an Advisory caseload of students through the four year experience of the school by assisting those students in their intellectual and social and emotional development
  • Provide “inclusive” instruction to accommodate for students with learning disabilities and language acquisition needs
  • Assist families in engaging in the life of their students while they attend SLHS by providing support for healthy choices outside of school that will allow high performance in school.
  • Participate in the development and activities of quarterly training and professional development systems led by the executive director and other staff.
  • Operate classrooms that are open to visitors who wish to learn about the school
  • Staff at least one quarterly “Interim School” session offered on the campus during the interim weeks
  • Facilitate the growth of a physically and emotionally safe school culture through daily activities in core content classrooms and Advisory
  • Lead an Advisory caseload of students through the four year experience of the school by assisting those students in their intellectual and social and emotional development
  • Provide “inclusive” instruction to accommodate for students with learning disabilities and language acquisition needs

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree, New Mexico teaching license, and background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Endorsed in multiple content areas
  • Math and Science Endorsements a plus
  • TESOL
  • Special Education License

COMPENSATION

Salary and benefits are competitive and dependent upon prior experience.
